Boston getting reliever Balcom-Miller, cash in return
The Rockies and Red Sox squeezed in another trade on Tuesday afternoon, swapping reliever Manny Delcarmen for a Minor League pitcher just hours before the waiver trade deadline.
Colorado acquired Delcarmen from the Red Sox for Minor League right-hander Chris Balcom-Miller and cash considerations. It wasn't immediately known how much of Delcarmen's salary his new club would assume.
With the addition of Delcarmen, Colorado signals that they aren't waving any white flags. After a sizzling week, the Rockies sit just 3 1/2 games back in the National League Wild Card race entering play on Monday.
By adding Delcarmen on Tuesday, he will be eligible for the postseason, if the Rockies make it to the playoffs. Delcarmen bolsters the Rockies 'pen, giving them a strong weapon against left-handers, especially, who are batting just .165 against Delcarmen. Delcarmen carries a 4.70 ERA with him to the Rockies.
Balcom-Miller, 21, is wrapping up his first full season of professional baseball. The right-hander went 6-7 with a 3.31 ERA for Asheville of Class A South Atlantic League.
