Peter Ebdon warns that he may not be able to play his best in Roewe Shanghai Masters

Warning: Peter Ebdon says he may not be at the peak of his form because he will not have played for at least 10 days

The warning was issued Wednesday morning via snooker’s governing body and follows the ongoing investigation into allegations that world number one John Higgins agreed to throw frames for money.

It is understood that Ebdon is concerned that his recent lack of practice would become known to gamblers and therefore wanted to set the record straight now in case he performed badly and suspicions were raised.

Ebdon is due to marry this weekend and then play a qualifying match for the Roewe Shanghai Masters next week.

"I would like to make it known that I consider that I will not be in a position to play to the best of my ability,” he said.

"Since playing in a recent tournament in Thailand I have not been able to practise, and by the time the qualifiers come around I will not have played for 10 days or more.

"I know just how bad I can be when I don't feel properly prepared as I am the type of player who needs to practise hard in order to play to a reasonable standard.

"As always, I will be doing my utmost to win what is a very important match for me but in truth, my levels of expectation will not be very high." Higgins has said that he is “100 per cent innocent” of the allegations against him.
