[Holland Jupiler League] NEC Nijmegen - Go Ahead Eagles 13.1 [Copy Link]

NEC Nijmegen: still unbeaten at home ( Recent Form: D L W W W )
That NEC is the big favorite to grab the title in the Jupiler League should be clear. The club from Nijmegen works with a large budget and that has resulted in a selection being made that has the necessary Eredivisie experience. The Nijmegen team shot out of their starting blocks like a javelin and that quickly resulted in a gap with the direct competitors, but just before the winter break the team actually left it to hand out the early knockout. There were some points lost here and that made Fortuna Sittard winter champion. However, it should be noted that the gap with the Limburgers is only one point and that the current number two has played a match less. Just before the winter break, NEC left some points as mentioned and that was surprising. For example, revelation Telstar managed to win at home of the champion candidate and Helmond Sport succeeded in scoring a point in the Goffert. The latter result was perhaps the most striking. The wandering Brabanders seemed to be ripe for the slaughter, but after fifty minutes they took off with a reward from the field. NEC's figures are more than good for the rest. For example, there was not lost at home (eight times win and two draws) and on average almost three goals per game are made for their own audience. NEC trainer Lijnders, who took over the baton from Adrie Bogers, will have to take the title with the latter on his side. The 34-year-old coach will have to do that with a slightly smaller selection because Robin Buwalda (Go Ahead Eagles, rent), Jordan Larsson (IFK Nörrkoping) and Joey Sleegers (AS Trencin) have left the Goffert. Here the supporters will not lie awake because they are purely reserves. That Mohammed Rayhi and Arnaut Groeneveld are still on the side with injuries is a damper.

Go Ahead Eagles: strikes the transfer market ( Recent Form: D L D L D )
The hopes and expectations of the supporters were already destroyed a few weeks after the start of the season. The team from Deventer did not manage to turn games into a win, despite a selection that contains quite a few qualities, which ultimately resulted in the departure of Leon Vlemmings. The experienced Jan van Staa took over everything for the winter break and the fans now hope that this will be the beginning of better times. The fact that there is room for improvement in Deventer may rightly be called an understatement. The team seemed to be an outsider for the title and therefore the current fourteenth place is extremely disappointing. Only four of the nineteen games played were won and that is simply too little. By the way, Van Staa is still waiting for his first victory because the form for the winter break was not to write home about. Go Ahead Eagles put down a series of eight league duels with no profit and that was also very disappointing, especially given the fact that the team from Deventer played at home against clubs like Jong FC Utrecht, RKC Waalwijk and FC Dordrecht. So the crisis has not yet come to an end and Van Staa's shoulders now have the hard task of turning the tide. The board of the Eagles used the short winter break to add some reinforcements to the selection and that happened especially in the defense. Mauro Savastano (Ajax, rent), Levi Opdam (AZ, rent) and Robin Buwalda (NEC, rent) have arrived in Deventer and they are all expected to kick off on Friday night. For Buwalda it is immediately a special race because he is playing against the club that rented him to the Eagles. Aaron Nemane (Manchester City, rent) will also have a chance to show his qualities on the right.

After all, NEC is obviously the favorite to win this game, but in my eyes that does not have to happen immediately. The team of Go Ahead Eagles has qualities and I expect that NEC will not get it easy. That's why I play Asian Handicap Go Ahead Eagles +1.75.
